Reciprocal Health Agreement Between Manx and Wales to End

As has been confirmed by the Manx Government, the reciprocal health agreement that currently exists between the Isle of Man and Wales is all set to end as soon as new legislation comes into effect.

The authority shared that it recently sought clarification with the Welsh Assembly over the imminent end of the free healthcare for tourists who are from the UK.

Andy Burnham, the UK Health Minister, has been tied in talks with the politicians of Manx over the change which has managed to spark much controversy.

The agreement is all set to come to an end on 1 April.

Isle of Man Ministers have expressed fear that the changes might end up having a negative impact on the island's tourism.

"Whilst it is my understanding that there is a willingness by the Welsh Assembly government to consider the possibility of a new reciprocal healthcare agreement between Wales and the Isle of Man, they remain in discussions with the UK's Department of Justice and Department of Health as to whether or not they have the legal authority to enter into a reciprocal healthcare agreement of their own", said Health Minister Eddie Teare.
