Tehran - Iran and Malaysia on Tuesday signed three agreements at the end of the three-day visit by Malaysian Prime Minster Abdullah Ahmad Badawi to Tehran.

The two sides signed three letters of understanding on scientific, technological and auto manufacturing fields as well as campaign against drug trafficking, official news agency IRNA reported.

The auto manufacturing agreement was signed with the Malaysian Proton company to carry out joint auto manufacturing projects, IRNA said.

In a joint press conference with Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Badawi said prospects for cooperation were bright. Iran was Malaysia's third-biggest trading partner in the Middle East with a trade volume of over three billion dollars.

Badawi further said that Tehran and Kuala Lumpur would further cooperate in fighting the current global economic, food and climate crisis.

Ahmadinejad said in the same conference that there was no obstacle in the way of boosting bilateral cooperation and termed Malaysia as a brotherly country for Iran. (dpa)
