Yesterday, the Logan International Airport became the first in the country to receive full-body scanners, as Government Officials try and strengthen the transportation security methods.
"While there is no single piece of technology that could be considered a silver bullet, imaging technology is an integral part of the effort to keep travelers safe”, shared Lee Kair, Assistant Administrator for Security Operations of the Transportation Security Administration.
The scanners, which are all set to start operating from Monday at Logan, are also being introduced next week at the O’Hare International Airport in Chicago. Also, over the coming months, these will be expanded to nine other airports.
The airports which are all set to be fitted with full body scanners in future include those in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., San Jose, Calif., Columbus, Ohio, San Diego and Charlotte, N. C.
The travelers who would be required to pass through one of the three machines at Logan will be randomly picked by the TSA staff.
The complete scan takes about 20 seconds and passengers have to raise their arms above their heads.
