Mention of the word "Oscars" and we get an immediate mental image of a long red carpet, beautiful ladies, handsome men and the paparazzi clicking away. Flashy gowns, big cars, the delicate waves and the pretty pictures deserve a special mention as well!

So it is now time again, the Oscar fever has begun, and the film fraternity is all set to honor the big achievers of 2009. Once again, the celebrities will dress in their best designer attire and walk down the beautiful red carpet, turning around at just the right angels and posing for the paparazzi.

And of course, some lucky ones will walk away with the glorious and prestigious gold statue, which will then adorn the shelves of their homes for all eternity.

The Oscars are tricky, sometimes at least, but sometimes, you just know that there has been one major flick in that particular year which very well has the capability to overshadow all the other productions. And 2009 managed to fall in the latter category, with Avatar, James Cameron's wondrous offering which took the whole world by storm.

Avatar has managed to break all release day records, collection records, and just about every other record on the planet! So we can expect the sci-fi to bag quite a few awards this year.

In the middle of all the Avatar noise, let's not forget some other amazing offering that 2009's Hollywood brought our way, including The Hurt Locker and Tarantino's marvel, Inglorious Basterds; and these are just two, there are many others!

The wait will soon be over, and the results will be out, till then - keep guessing!

An interesting fact before I wrap up - if Avatar wins the Best Picture Oscar, it will be the first ever sci-fi to do so!
