Student Hospitalized Due to Contagious Bacterial Infection

It has been reported that a student of St. Mary's High School was diagnosed with a contagious case of a bacterial infection called the meningococcal disease. It was also confirmed that the risk of other students or even teachers of developing the illness was said to be extremely low.

In spite of the confirmation, about ten students, who were in close contact with the patient when the infection was developed, were given antibiotics and were also offered a vaccine as a precautionary measure. Usually this disease has the potential to even become fatal, but in this condition, there was not much to worry about as it was not that serious.

This infection cannot be transmitted by simple casual contact. It is only transferred by intimate contact by sharing some things like lipstick, cigarettes and even water bottles. It can also be spread through saliva which is said to be more typical.

Younger people are at a greater risk of the disease than older people as they are more prone to share eating utensils and also drinks. The general symptoms are headache, nausea, vomiting, fever and also a stiff neck.
