Toyota Motor Corp. is planning to offer clarifications on the claims of a critic who said that the sudden acceleration in Toyota cars is an outcome of its inappropriate electronics system, by holding an event, this Monday.
"It is important now to reassure [customers] that Toyota vehicles are safe", said Akio Toyoda, Toyota's President. On February 3rd, W. Gilbert, a Professor at Southern Illinois University Carbondale, claimed that he had recognized that the sudden acceleration in the Toyota vehicles was due to a defect in its electronic system and not in gas pedals.
Toyota will be inviting the Director of Stanford University's Center for Automotive Research, Chris Gerdes, to clarify and put down the faulty claims made by Gilbert. To cross check the claims, Toyota has appointed a consultancy service, Exponent Inc., which has been examining whether the electronic problems have so far caused any accidental accelerations.
As per the scrutiny reports submitted by Exponent, till now, no connection has been observed between the electronic problems and accidental accelerations.
Through the event, Toyota aims at reinstating its consumer confidence and recognized reputation in the international market.
