A referendum has been refused by Iceland devastatingly on Saturday to reimburse the debts to Britain and the Netherlands. In 2008, an Icelandic bank malformed, and to repay the lost money, Iceland rejected the referendum.
Voters showed their rage by voting against the proposal. About 93.1% voters voted against the proposal while just 1.6% of the voters were in favor of it. Icelanders presumed that the less voting in favor of the proposal is probably be a sign of the global economic crisis.
The rest of the ballots were found clean or invalid. According to the survey, almost two-thirds of the 235,000 people, who were eligible for voting, would also be eligible to discard the referendum and, consequently, the reimbursement. The President called the referendum in the initial days of January, just after the protest of the citizens.
During the deadlock, the financial aid has been delayed. "This has no impact on the life of the government. We need to keep going and finish the debate. We have to get an agreement", said Johanna Sigurdardottir, the Prime Minister.
