Recall of Flavor-Enhanced Foods Expanded by Canada

Official reports have confirmed that the Canadian Food Inspection Agency, which seems to be following an American investigation very closely about the recall of foods which contain hydrolyzed vegetable protein, has expanded its own recall of products which contain the flavor enhancer, as chances are that it could be contaminated with salmonella.

On Sunday, the agency sent out a warning to the general public against consumption of some pretzel and dip products as these could contain hydrolyzed vegetable protein, or HVP, manufactured by Basic Food Flavors Inc. of Las Vegas.

In the US, as many as 56 food items manufactured by Basic Food Flavors and suspected of containing HVP, has now been totally recalled.

The ingredient is reportedly used as a flavor enhancer in food products like soups, hot dogs and sausages, among others.

In Canada, the voluntary recall of products with HVP has been expanded to recall Honey Mustard by H. K. Anderson Southwest Ranch Veggie Dip by President's Choice Honey Mustard flavor.
