History Might Repeat Itself in Telecom
History Might Repeat Itself in Telecom

According to Telecom's new management team, Theresa Gattung's Bird on a Wire is a bold and truthful account of her own experiences as Telecom's Chief Executive.

While promoting the book, Theresa had claimed that history is in danger of repeating itself, after Labor saw a political benefit in giving in to demands from the public to "castrate" Telecom.

Ms. Gattung writes that if the current Government strikes a deal with Telecom in its $1.5 billion UltraFast Broadband (UFB) plan, it would be in the best health of the public.

Steven Joyce, Communications Minister, says, "Crown Fibre Holdings will be focused on getting the best possible partner for taxpayer funds and not on politics".

In her book, she believes that the public's view of Telecom might have been different if more people had a stake in its financial success. Without that, she says many would have liked it to have been a state-owned enterprise.

Clare Curran, Opposition Communications Spokeswoman, says that it will be a difficult task for Telecom to persuade the masses that it is a New Zealand business.
