The Grammy Award-winning rapper, Lil Wayne is reported as set to finally be sentenced and begin his one-year prison term stemming from a 2007 gun arrest on Monday (March 8), after a series of delays.

First, the rap star's imprisonment was postponed last month so he could undergo surgery on his bejeweled teeth. Then, a courthouse fire led to the closing of Manhattan's main criminal courthouse while he was on his way there last week.

He was sentenced when he pleaded guilty in October, accused to attempt criminal possession of a weapon. He admitted illegally having a loaded .40-caliber semiautomatic gun on his tour bus in July 2007.

The rapper, born Dwayne Carter, has emerged as one of music's most prolific image in recent years. His "Tha Carter III" fetched the best-selling album title in 2008. His latest album, "Rebirth", was released last month.

Facing sentence at such a throttling stage of her career, Lil Wayne has prepared with a burst of work and farewell shows and videos for fans.

His lawyer has revealed that she plans to seek protective custody out of concern for safety, as well as his health after his extended oral surgeries.
