The mining industry in Canada is all set for a face-off with Ottawa over a controversial bill, which could destroy the reputation and survival of the industry in the international economy.
Although the supporters of the c-300 bill have explained that it aims at checking the effectiveness of the Canadian firms in the global market, the mining industry complains that it raises a finger on the integrity of the industry.
"There is an underlying assumption that there is no accountability, which is nonsense", said Tony Andrews, executive director of the Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada PDAC.
PDAC also said that the bill was compiled without the consultation of the industry.
Mr. Andrew stressed that the bill was not aimed to become legislation.
"We are very much behind a robust system of accountability. We would be crazy not to be", he said.
A number of executives from mining firms like Barrick Gold Corp., Goldcorp Inc., and Kinross Gold Corp. have been showing objections on the bill's implementation.
A majority of the experts said that the Canadian mining giants possess a robust record globally.
