Rivalry between Apple and HP has taken another turn. Subsequent to Apple’s iPad, HP released a video of its new touch screen tablet, the Slate. It will run on the Windows 7 operating system and support Flash contrary to Apple’s iPad, which is not equipped to support Flash-based sites or videos.
Phil McKinney, Vice-President and Chief Technology Officer for HP’s Personal System Group, wrote in his blog, “With this slate product, you’re getting a full web browsing experience in the palm of your hand. No watered-down internet, no sacrifices”.
However, HP has not disclosed when the Slate will be available in the market and at what price, only hinting that it will hit the markets this year.
Dell has also seemed to join the bandwagon of tablets. It plans to release a bunch of tablets, the first one being a handy device with a 5-inch screen codenamed Dell Mini 5. Dell has not revealed cost or availability for its product yet.
Apple’s iPad will be in market for sale from April 3, starting at $500.
The Slate offers the users web browsing experience and apps like Pandora and the music player. It is also geared with photo-editing tools and a digital version of The New York Times.
