Motorola Backflip Falls Short of Providing Full Android Experience

AT&T has welcomed Android platform with the release of Motorola's Backflip, but it seems it is not capable of providing full Android experience to its users.

With the Motorola Backflip, it is AT&T's first trip into Android area. Equipped with an exclusive back-flipping QWERTY keypad and back-of-display touchpad, the Backflip is unlike most of Android cell phones.

Unlike iPhone, Google's operating system, Android, lets you download any applications without needing the manufacturer's permission.

But with the Motorola Backflip, the option to install unofficial applications, those found outside of the official Android Market, is missing from the device. The "Unknown sources" setting is not present on the "Applications" menu, where it would be generally found.

One can download unofficial apps without the normal option, but it is rather a complex process involving the Android software development kit.

Also, AT&T has preloaded the Backflip with a number of its own apps that cannot be eliminated.

While, Motorola's representatives were not present to answer these queries, AT&T representatives were not able to explain the situation.
