A Malacañang official forbade the men of the cloth to order their group, as the conflict between the Government and Philippine Catholic bishops persists. They are fighting over the issue of use of condoms.
Charito Planas, who is Deputy Presidential spokesperson, shared that whether to use condoms or not, should be left to people who want to plan their families. Planas said, "Give the people a choice. Don't dictate. Give the people a chance to choose, otherwise that would be dictatorship".
She also shared that condoms are meant primarily for family planning and if the Government is offering condoms, it does not mean that it is encouraging abortions. Even Christians are using condoms.
She opines that Philippines is a country that follows democracy, unlike China, were the number of children parents should produce is decided by the authorities. She said, "In China where there is no democracy, authorities dictate how many children a family can have. Here, we make babies if we have nothing better to do. So if you cannot avoid having sex, use what you have to".
Catholic bishops are in no way interested in compromising as far as the use of contraceptives is concerned to minimize population growth.
