The Singaporean Medical students may get pre-employment grant in lieu of a bond they would have to serve after they complete their graduation.
Health Minister Khaw Boon Wan shared that this new idea is feasible and this will make it easy for our kids to come back from overseas.
Mr. Khaw said, "We are investing in biomedical research and supporting those with research interest. For the young doctors, we are ramping up training opportunities. 'This will allow every young doctor to reach his maximum potential in his chosen specialty, including the specialty of Family Physician".
About $120 million will be kept aside in order to solidify specialist training programmes for the next five years.
In order to improve the staff-to-patient ratio, more doctors, nurses and other professionals have been included. It was a recruitment drive, started in 2007 to recruit more than 7,700 medical specialists.
Mr. Chaw added, "We are halfway through this five-year plan... and we are on track to achieving the target. Our headcounts have increased by 44 per cent. Our doctor staffing level has gone up from 6 doctors to 8 doctors per 10 beds".
Though, the medical staff attrition rate has come down from 8% to 6% for doctors and from 10% to 7% for nurses, yet it is an unending challenge.
