A couple in Scotland participated in a kidney swap, where three patients from United Kingdom went through a transplant surgery, on the same day.
Andrea Mullen, hailing from Aberdeen, was able to undergo a crucial transplant surgery when her husband agreed to donate his kidney to another person.
"I feel better than I have done in years and I feel as though I have been given my life back. My illness didn't just affect my life, but my husband's and my family's. I am so grateful to everyone for giving me this second chance”, said Mrs. Mullen.
The three-way kidney swap is happening for the second time in UK.
Six people agreed to take part in three-way kidney swap to get a better match, as their blood group and tissues did not match with their family members.
In a recent kidney swap, a kidney which was donated by Mr. Mullen, was transported from Edinburgh to London for transplant, which went to recipient Chris Brent, as their blood group and tissue matched.
All the couples who have taken part in the three-way kidney swap yesterday expressed their happiness after the transplants surgery had been declared successful.
