A full investigation has been launched after a family of a baby born on 5 February reported the possibility of the baby being injected with 0.5mg of the BCG vaccine instead of the usual recommended 0.05mg dose at Scunthorpe General Hospital.
Presently, the new born baby is under surveillance by immunology specialists at Sheffield Children's Hospital, under treatment for tuberculosis and the baby’s family is hopeful of fast recovery of the child with no long term damage.
David Body, a medical law specialist at the firm, said: "It is unclear how many people have been affected but we have received reports that others may also have been given the same overdose. A spokesman for the Northern Lincolnshire and Goole Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust said, "As soon as we were made aware of the incident we launched a full investigation which is ongoing. We continue to keep in touch with the parents, providing them with updates as to the results of the investigation".
The inhumane and careless behavior on the part of the junior doctor at Scunthorpe General Hospital has raised serious concerns on the administration of drugs in the hospitals.
