Non-Clinical Areas Used as Bedding Spaces to Cope up with Increasing Patients

A survey has disclosed a disappointing fact that, due to lack of clinical care areas in the hospitals, the corridors, kitchens, TV rooms and many other non-clinical areas are being used to provide the patients with beds for getting admitted.

According to the survey, concluded on the basis of a poll by 900 working nurses, it was confirmed that 63% of nursing staff was conscious of this fact that the areas being used for treatment is actually not meant for the same. Survey also highlights that although brought into notice of hospital management, not much attention is being paid.

This survey calls for an immediate need of improving infrastructure because the temporary beds are not completely equipped with the required aids and this can be a risky for patients.

Authorities clarify by saying that Government's time limit of four hours was at a threat of getting violated because of increased number of patients at A&E so; the non-clinical areas were converted into bedding space for the patients.

Anne Milton, Shadow Health Minister stated, "This is truly shocking. Nurses must be free to make decisions about where and when to treat people on clinical grounds.

They should not be forced into treating people in cupboard or a kitchen just to meet Labor's bureaucratic targets."
