Following the recalls of 8.5 million vehicles due to acceleration and braking problems in their models, Tyota's Prius would resulted in yet another accident if California Highway Patrol officer would not have safely stopped it while it's accelerator got stuck at 94 mph.
This incident occurred on Monday when Prius driver James Sikes complained to 911 at 1.30 p. m. while he faced this problem of not being able to lessen the speed on Interstate 8 near La Posta, CHP reported.
Mr. Sikes explained, "I pushed the gas pedal to pass a car and it did something kind of funny... it jumped and it just stuck there... As it was going, I was trying the brakes... it wasn't stopping, it wasn't doing anything and it just kept speeding up. I could smell the brakes burning I was pressing the pedal so hard".
The car was stopped after, as per the instructions, the driver applied power brakes and managed to slow down the speed to 50 mph after 20 minutes of struggle with the breaks as CPH officers, who pulled along the vehicle, instructed on the loudspeaker while the 61-years old driver followed the instructions.
Assuring to investigate for the faults that lead to the incident, Toyota's Spokesman Brian Lyons stated, "We're sending a field technical specialist to San Diego to investigate the car and find out what happened. We won't be able to comment on what any possible problems with the car were until we take a look at the car".
