Bentley Mulsanne is the hyper-luxury car, the four door flagship which will be offered to the customers in not less than 115 colors -except for if the customer wants some different color to beautify the car.
The process of painting the car is not a trouble free one, it commences on the arrival of the Mulsanne body shell at the paint shop via the automated overhead gantry, it is further processed by full - immersion tanks in a series of steps which involves de- greasing, cleaning, conditioning, rinsing, followed by phosphate and passivity of the steel and aluminum structure. At each immersion tank, the shell is dipped properly to avoid any non-filling of the gaps leading to damages. After the draining process, the body shell is then treated by an electro- coating tank.
After this, a two coat primer is applied by the hands of Bentley's craftsmen. A combination of hand and power tools is used for the primed body to be nicely inspected, sanded and flatted. To achieve the flashy finish, the color base coat is applied with the hand too. Further, lacquer coats are applied using robots for the ideal finish.
According to Walton, spokesperson from Bentley, "We've been asked to match a paint finish to a cherished nail polish, a 50-year old classic Bentley and on one occasion a shade of turquoise on a food mixer for our Arnage, Brooklands and Azure customers".
