Proposed Cancer Centre Remarks Taken Back By AHS

The management of Alberta Health Service backed off the decision of a new cancer center for Calgary by saying that the statement regarding the same was made by mistake.

In a speech delivered at Edmonton Chamber of Commerce on Tuesday, Ken Hughes stated, "We may have erred last week in commenting on the capital budget before it's finalized and we recognize that capital policies and priorities really are the responsibilities of Alberta Health and Wellness and the province of Alberta and that's the appropriate place for those decisions to be made”.

Hughes has come up with the above statement subsequent to proclamation by the CEO of AHS Stephen Duckett in which he notified the Calgary Herald regarding the involvement of Government for replacement of Tom Baker Cancer Centre and the decision of working upon improvement of prevailing facilities.

Following the speech of Hughes, Duckett admitted that he made an error and that he should not have commented on the issue of “capital program”.

Also Dr. Duckett revealed a new plan for crediting the ones who work efficiently for the clinics and hospitals in Alberta. This new appraisal scheme is termed “pay-for-performance” and will be offering financial rewards for the target reaching facilities.
