Come Consumer Electronics Show January 8, and LG will demonstrate a new TFT LCD for working on a laptop outdoors! The specially designed 14.1” LCD is driven by sunlight, and ideal for indoor as well as outdoor use, as it brings adaptive backlight displays to a new level, and also features an increased contrast ratio.
LG’s newly-rolled out LCD monitor can reduce power consumption by 75% in comparison to standard LCD panels. According to company claims, the display, in sunlight mode, will need only 25% of the power that is used in backlight mode. Since a regular 14.1” LCD consumes 50 to 70 watts, 75% power saving is quite substantial.
The latest offering by LG will give a user maximum screen visibility, practically under all conditions, due to the easy switchover from Transmissive mode to Reflective mode. LG says that the innovative display can add to the battery life of a notebook.
The new LCD panel has integrated selective reflection plates in existing backlight panels, which help in the switching over from reflective mode in a high luminance sunlight setting, to transmissive mode in a low luminance indoor and night setting. A mere touch of a button enables the switch from sunlight mode to backlight mode.
In addition, due to the increased contrast ratio, the display achieves nearly four times higher outdoor contrast ratio than that of regular LCDs, in similar settings.
