Flu Shots for Children Shield A Community

Providing flu shots to schoolchildren shields a whole community from the hazardous disease, reveals a remarkable study which was conducted in about 49 remote Hutterite farming colonies in Western Canada.

This measure is a sure way to be spared from the flu as compared to the other ways like viral mutations and hand-washing.

Dr. Carolyn B. Bridges, an expert in influenza epidemiology at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said, “This is quite a definitive study, and it took a Herculean effort. My hat’s off to them”.

Dr. Anthony S. Fauci, Director of the National Institute for Allergy and Infectious Diseases also supported the project and added that it is a good study as it has authenticated the American Government’s decision of giving shots to children when the swine flu epidemic broke.

Dr. Fauci said, “Before, the healthy adolescent kids were not among those that were highly recommended to get vaccinated. Now, this shows that even though they don't usually get into trouble from the flu, you can get double bang for the buck by protecting not only them but the people they come in contact with”.

About 3 to 15 children were vaccinated, only 3.1% of the people were infected with flu, as compared to 7.6% rate in the communities where no vaccinations took place.
