HSV-2 is the Most Common STD in U.S., Says Centre for Disease Control and Preven

The Centre for Disease Control and Prevention on Tuesday stated that annually in U. S about 19 million are detected with sexual transmitted diseases (STD). The announcement also revealed a concerning fact that half of the infected ones are young.

The percentage of young patients, mostly of 14-49 years age group, is 16%. The most common of the STD diseases is herpes simplex virus type 2 (HSV-2) which is predicted to infect every sixth person in U. S infects one in six in the nation. 21% black women are at risk of getting infected as compared to 11.5% of males i. e., two times more risk of getting infected prevails in females.

Director of CDS’s National Center for HIV/Aids Dr. Kevin Fenton said, "Young women, African Americans, and gay and bisexual men are especially hard hit. It is unacceptable that STDs remain such a widespread public health problem in the United States today. HSV-2 is a public health challenge that we, as a nation, cannot afford to ignore”.

CDS informed that ignorant patients raise the risk of transmitting HSV-2, which a life-time untreatable disease is resulting in genital problems. HSV-2 therefore also elevates the risk of acquiring AIDS virus.
