US Resident Treated Successfully in India after US doctors Denied Treatment

Mohammad Walji, the 74-year-old US citizen, who was denied a treatment for his Parkinson’s disease in US, finally received it at Jaslok Hospital and Research Centre, a Mumbai-based hospital.

The hospital proclaimed the success of the treatment on Tuesday.

“Despite taking large doses of medicine he could independently function for only a few hours in the day and rest of the period was spent in bed or in an incapacitated manner”, Dr. Paresh Doshi of Jaslok.

“Surgical treatment was the only option for a better quality of life, although his age was of concern”, he added.

The patient was totally dependent on his wife prior to the treatment, as he suffered from severe motor fluctuations.

More than 6 doctors had been consulted for his treatment in U. S., and all of them denied taking up the task, in view of his age.

“His condition had deteriorated a lot over the last year but we did not want to give up. A centre even suggested that he should be put in a shelter”, said Siddika Jafra, Walji’s daughter from Orlando.

She further said that her father is able to do a lot of work on his own, post the surgery.

The most effective cure for Parkinson’s disease is deep brain stimulation.
