Warning to be Issued for Baby Slings Causing Deaths Due to Suffocation

An alarm is being raised by Consumer Product Safety Commission regarding the use of baby slings which have reportedly suffocated some seven infants to death.

It has been found that these infant-carriers can suffocate babies in some specific positions which can sometimes be fatal. A warning will probably be issued by this week.

Chairman of Consumer Product Safety Commission Inez Tenenbaum said, "Agency is getting ready to issue a general warning to the public, likely to go out this week, about the baby carriers".

Inez said, "We know of too many deaths in these slings and we now know the hazard scenarios for very small babies. So, the time has come to alert parents and caregivers".

Earlier also, consumer reports in 2008 had highlighted the issue after almost two dozen injuries caused due to falling off of the babies in the soft fabric slings, according to Associated Press.
