Melbourne’s Train Operator Forced to Shut Down Numerous Services

Melbourne's train operator Metro has been forced to shut down numerous services for the second day in a row as rail operator Metro posed underperformance.

Mr. Brumby posted that he was unhappy learning that the company had failed to fulfill contractual timetable obligations since taking over from the deeply unloved Connex.

His comments emerged as Metro revealed this afternoon that just 83.4 per cent of trains ran on time in February, significantly less than Metro's target to run 88 per cent of trains within five minutes of their scheduled arrival time.

It is reported that more than 40 services were cancelled this morning after 80 cancellations yesterday.

It has reportedly been 100 days since Metro took over the charge of Melbourne's train service and a report card on the company's performance is due soon.

Metro spokesman Chris Whitefield posted that those with a valid monthly; six-monthly or yearly rail ticket could grab the opportunity to receive two free days of travel as compensation for February's poor punctuality results.

In an Age Online poll, above 1200 voters so far are reported widespread public disgruntlement with the new rail operator.
