Rescission Agreements Benefit Only Few: Reports
health insurers

Reasons are being sought for the lesser number of Californian users benefiting from the settlement agreements that were attained by the health insurers and the state regulators. It is being asked that why is the number of people taking advantage of the settlement regarding the dropping of treatment so less. The treatment drop was the one that members had to face after they fall ill.

It was revealed in the report on Tuesday that not more than 200 people underwent the settlement process which was passed and implemented to find out whether or not the restoration of benefits should be taken up. This was reported by the Accountability and Administrative Review committee of the state.

In the resolution agreement, five prominent insurance companies had subjected almost 6,000 Californians to “rescissions”. The insurers involved in the contract were Anthem Blue Cross, HealthNet, PacifiCare of California, Blue Shield of California and Kaiser Permanente.

Department of Managed Health Care official Amy Dobberteen stated in the hearing of legislative accountability that since 2008, nine rescissions have been reported till now. In order to ensure transparent services, she also insisted the insurers’ should opt for new rules.

Assemblyman Hector De La Torre, D-South Gate, said "As we were digging in and asking questions, it became clear for both the Department of Insurance and the Department of Managed Health Care that this was government by press release. They announced this wonderful settlement, and didn't follow through with it".
