A recent consumer research reported the difficulties being faced by the visitors to the NHS hospitals including the fee payment systems, expensive cost of parking, unavailability of parking space. The reported inconvenience has proved to be hurdles for accessing the National Health Services.
It has been claimed that hospitals make a huge profit of up to £1m a year from their car parks services. The hindrances are only being faced by hospitals of England, relief has been for Scotland and Wales as the car parking charges have been scrapped or have been proposed to be scrapped. It has been suggested that the Government should take necessary steps to eliminate the problems to make the visit a pleasant experience for the patients.
A spokeswoman from the Department of Health added that the admitted patients in the hospitals are in an emotional or financial dilemma and the unfair car parking charges may bound the family and friends to not to visit the hospitals. She said, “We want to make sure that we get the best solution to providing fairer hospital car parking to all patients”.
Paul Watters, head of public affairs said that the need to maintain the car parking charges is to ensure discipline in the car parking lot or else it would lead to a heap of cars parked in an unreasonable manner.
