Youth Health Centre to be Closed

The Mental Health Foundation revealed their concerns regarding the closing of a youth health centre in Christchurch because of insufficient funding.

The youth health centre will be closed on 30 April, due to which the younger people will be affected.

198 Youth Health Centre has been providing health services to young people aged between 10 and 25 for the past 15 years.

Dr. Sue Bagshaw, Senior doctor and Creator of the Centre, reveals that there has been an effective reduction in income which unable the centre to bear the deficit. There has been a slightly modification in the funding due to which it has also result in a decrease in costs.

"The closure of the centre is deeply concerning as it has been meeting the needs of a high risk group of young people. One in five young people experience depression and the lack of investment and subsequent closure means that many young people will be left with limited access to mental health and drug and alcohol services”, said Judi Clements, Chief Executive of the Mental Health Foundation.
