Another big announcement is on its way. OnLive, a “Games On Demand” service, expects to give instant gaming on the web for titles like Crysis, Burnout Paradise, and much more. It plans to take consoles and computer component requirements out, so that everything is computed on a remote OnLive server and propelled back to the user’s TV or monitor.
Though this sounds somewhat doubtful, OnLive refused to give in to the cynics, and sang praises for their innovative product.
In fact they have set a date for OnLive service to go online. June 17, 2010 is said to be the official launch date of OnLive in the United States.
In the beginning, OnLive will be available for PC and Mac with a monthly fee of $14.95, though later it will expand to some sort of set top boxes.
OnLive CEO, Steve Perlman and COO, Mike McGarvey in a Q&A session, said that OnLive will start with 10—20 recent titles such as Mass Effect 2 and Dragon Age: Origins. By the end of 2010, it intends to expand to around 60 games.
Perlman also said that he expects OnLive service to get up to 1080p quality at a sound 60 frames per second as more bandwidth becomes available.
