When activity is boosted in the part of the brain which is linked with the problem solving, people are easily able to forget differences.
Emotions are controlled better by those with more activity in the lateral prefrontal cortex, which is the puzzle-solving area of the brain, added the US psychologists, from Harvard University. Such people are calmer and are capable of a sooner recovery after a brawl.
Prof Christine Hooker experimented for three long weeks and concluded that the people who engage their minds in brain-teasers on a daily basis recover quicker from rows, than the ones who do not.
She said, "It appears that those with low lateral prefrontal cortex activity continued to feel badly after a dispute. The key factor seems to be that brain activity can predict our experiences in life".
