As winters wave way for the longer days with the weather getting warmer, most of us will spend more time in the sun -- and that means the time has come to ponder over how to protect our skin a little bit better.
"You certainly can get sunburn early on in the spring," says Dr. Tom Woo, dermatologist with Laser Rejuvenation Clinics and Spa in Calgary.
Even if one work in an office all day, doctors recommend people to apply on some sunscreen 20 minutes before leaving the house.
Irrespective of the fact that you are a male or a female, wear it as a moisturizer, suggests Dr. Woo.
In addition, to make sure the one you choose states that it shields your skin against both ultraviolet A (UVA) and ultraviolet B (UVB) rays; he recommends a sunscreen with an SPF of 15 or more as ideal.
Woo also explains that UVB rays are the harmful rays that burn skin, while UVA rays are believed to boost the risk for developing skin cancer.
For women, it is advised that even if they wear makeup, using water to wash your face does work; the key is wearing water-based makeup to begin with.
