Experts report that the damage from diabetic cancer is more than cancer. The subject matter of this year's World Kidney Day - 'Protect Your Kidneys- Control Diabetes' is determined to spread awareness among the citizens to prevent Chronic Kidney Disease majorly caused by diabetes.
Dr. V. S. Reddy, consultant nephrologist, Krishna Institute of Medical Sciences said, "Diabetic nephropathy is a progressive disease and may occur in at least 30-40 per cent of all diabetics". It has been predicted that 40 -050 percent of kidney transplant takes place due to diabetes.
An ample number of people undertake kidney dialysis or transplant and the numbers of patients that have been added for the treatment of End Stage Renal Disease have risen to 200. This increased number is causing stress on the healthcare infrastructure which is facing a major challenge in terms of shortage of doctors and treatment institutes.
Astonishing fact has been highlighted which confirms that in India, the doctors attending the kidney patients are just 800 in number, which is not an appropriate number to meet the needs of the increasing population.
