There's a good news for Apple iPhone users. They will be now able to run multiple applications on their iPhone at the same time.
On Thursday, AppleInsider reported that this summer, Apple will enable multitasking in its iPhone 4.0 update that will permit many third party apps to run at the same time in the background.
However, it is still undecided how Apple will cope up with battery life and performance, two major issues connected with multitasking.
Meanwhile, Michael Oh, President of Boston-based Apple reseller Tech Superpowers, said that though Multitasking would be a good idea for many iPhone users, it is not that essential.
While the feature will allow apps like Pandora to run in the background, users won't be using multitasking for searching restaurants, movie times or news reports, Oh added.
He said, "Apple doesn't really need multitasking for the iPhone to be competitive, but the perception is that competitors are going to be pushing multitasking as a feature. The time is about right for Apple to cave on this -- unless there is radically new hardware, the iPhone feels like it is losing ground and staying still".
Other smartphones like the Motorola Droid also support multi-tasking.
