The Wall Street Journal cited a report on Thursday regarding launch of Verizon Wireless’ first mobile handset with 4G network by 2011. It reported that the mobile devices will be having five times faster pace than broadband speed of 3G networks, with availability of the same in 25-30 markets. The service is expected to carter to 100 million people.

The nationwide launch will be witnessed by 2013 as the company plans. Verizon has been crowned with the first position in the wireless customer satisfaction in the annual survey of Consumer Report.

Elaborating on the planned launch, Anthony Melone, CTO of Verizon explained that there will be 4G and 3G chipsets separately in the handset and hopefully the company will manage to offer more number of handsets with 4G features, within three to six months of commercial launch.

This launch was hinted at by Dick Lynch, the Vice President of Verizon Communication at the GSMA's Mobile World Congress this February. The technology being used in this process is termed as Long Term Evolution or LTE, which marks the final take of its testing for technology.

But executives of the company are not yet confident about exact date for the launch and also the manufacturer and the operating system of the phones are not decided.
