Probably, the most talked about topic of technology trends “the location tool” will blanket the discussions at South by Southwest Interactive Festival (SXSWi) after Foursquare and Gowalla initiated the location based feature in social networking.
This topic will gain attention because after Foursquare, initially offered an application which makes it possible for the users to flag themselves geographically, a number of social networks including Gowalla, Brightkite, Loopt and Where. com became popular among the smatphone users to publicize themselves.
The trend is being followed blindly as even business enterprise Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers have put in an amount of $9.5 million in a location-based social-gaming iPhone app’s maker Booyah. A major reason for tuning in this feature is the increased advertisings for internet sellers because of the specific details that can be concluded by geolocation about the target users.
More in the queue of adding the location feature are Twitter which last week hinted that it plans to provide better geo-location data for the developers. Also Yelp, review site has introduced a check-in option into its iPhone app.
This trend needs to be analyzed as it is a digital trend being adopted by prominent companies of the world as well ranging from Yelp to globally and heavily used Twitter. Although no concrete reports have yet been received from Facebook, it is expected that the Social networking site will opt for the service soon.
