A National Conference of GPs have come up with a problem highlighted by the doctors in which they are saying that pregnant females are at a risk because midwives are being recommended to contact even before the doctors once pregnancy is detected.
The doctors are opposing the system which was initiated this year, advertized on the bus stops with an ad-campaign of £150,000, which advised the pregnant females to take an appointment with the midwifes, not a doctor. This was raised as a matter of concern in the national doctors' conference where doctors complained being marginalized as they are not being consulted regarding problems which need a noticeable attention for patient’s health.
Alarming about the pregnant woman who have additional inherited diseases like obesity and heart problems can be at a greater risk if they do not opt consulting a doctor at the time of pregnancy, Dr Catriona Morton, a GP in Edinburgh, said that early involvement in such cases is seriously required and should be recommended because of the amount of experience and knowledge that doctors possess.
Government Spokeswoman of Scotland said, “GPs provide excellent primary care to patients of all ages, but evidence shows women benefit from being seen by specialist pregnancy services as early as possible”.
