$14,000 Already Raised for ‘Relay For Life’

It is reported that 181 people and 32 teams have registered themselves for The American Cancer Society of Rockbridge's 'Relay for Life' event to be held at Rockbridge County High School on May 7-8, 2010. Nearly $14,000 has already been raised out of the $112,000 target kept for this year's event.

The committee is in search of more participants and relay teams to take part in the Relay event and plans to hold a meeting for all Relay for Life team captains on Thursday, March 18th at 7:00 p. m. at the local VFW building. Old and new teams are urged to attend this meeting to get important information about the forthcoming Relay for Life event.

Every month, the team captains meeting is held and sponsored by the core committee to offer support for Relay team captains. This way, Relay teams get an opportunity to interact with each other, receive education, come up with fund raising schemes, and be motivated by listening to survival stories of local cancer patients. The meeting also gives a chance for teams to turn in funds and stock up supplies for their Relay team.

Candle luminaries are being offered by all Relay teams for $10.00. These may be bought in honor of a cancer survivor or in remembrance of a person who has lost its battle with cancer.
