In order to encourage communities and people to move from acute hospitals to the community hospitals, a move from the Health Ministry has been proposed to be implemented at the middle of the year which allows the patients to utilize more proportion of their Medisave funds.
Mr. Khaw said the changes are in response to calls by several Members of Parliament "for rational Medisave withdrawal rules to encourage right-sitting of patients in the community". This move from the Health Ministry would help to decrease the cost of treatment associated with acute hospitals because the community hospitals are relatively cheaper and it will lead to more availability of beds for the patients waiting in line.
The daily withdrawal amount has been raised from $150 to $250 and the yearly amount has been fixed from $3,500 to $5,000. The new withdrawal limits would be helpful to the patients in clearing up their bills at the community hospitals, freeing them from any debt. One more change has been introduced but in respect to the rehabilitation services, where the patients can withdraw up to $25.
The proposition will lend a hand to the patients as they will be able to compensate the high cost associated with better care and capable therapists.
