The U. S. Legislators have expressed their concern over the likelihood of the rise in the cable prices and limitations to be imposed on the customers while accessing the programs, if the Comcast-NBC deal gets through.
The $30 billion deal will allow Comcast to take full control of NBC Universal's operations, enjoying a 51% stake.
Brian Roberts, Comcast's CEO shared that the company is looking forward to an investment return. He also said that Comcast will put in an amount of $6.5 billion in cash, in the deal.
Expressing his deep respect for Roberts, Massachusetts senator John Kerry said, "I have an open mind on this", about the deal.
However, Senator Maria Cantwell said that she will endorse the deal, in view of the complaints coming in from the residents of Washington. Christine Varney, head of the Justice Department's antitrust division, and Julius Genachowski, Chairman of the Federal Communications Commission, both simply refused to comment on the merger.
A number of other lawmakers intended to take into consideration, the views of the common people first.
Being questioned upon the rising rate of cable, Robert said, "We are always focused on that question. I don't think anything specific to this merger would incentivize us to raise prices".
