NT Accused of Being Biased Against SA Renal Patients

The Labor Member whose electorate covers South Australia's far north reveals that it is up to the Northern Territory to remove a ban imposed on renal patients from the far north-west Aboriginal lands, not South Australia.

The South Australian Government has been reportedly accused of cruelty and neglect for its inability to negotiate a deal with the NT so that patients from the APY Lands can once again have access to dialysis treatment in Alice Springs.

The Member for Giles, Lyn Breuer, has openly accused the NT of discrimination as when NT lifted the ban for Western Australian patients after negotiations with that state's Government.

It addition, he believes that it is misguiding the public by saying there is a new deal with Western Australia when there is not.

AMSANT's Executive Officer John Paterson called for the government to announce money for renal facilities on today's occasion.

"There's a 12 per cent growth in renal patients, which equates to an extra 24 beds per year. This is unacceptable. Governments have to take the proactive approach," he added.
