ASIO Goes Cautiously Public

In a rare move of going public for the first time, Australia's premier spy organization ASIO launched an open campaign for recruits, inviting hopeful journalists to come to its Canberra Headquarters.

Australia's premier spy organization is infiltrating social media and revamping its own website in a bid to attract more young people to join its ranks.

Deputy Director General David Fricker today launched a new campaign that attempts to search for the future officers through social networking sites like Facebook.

A key part of the campaign is an all-new website through which videos would be uploaded to showcase "the life of a spy".

But the agency did not entirely drop its discreet persona, as journalists were told that all conversations over morning tea would be "off the record". The identity of the officers in the room was also not revealed.

Deputy Director General revealed that the new website is aiming to debunk "long-held myths" about the ASIO officers' work, while also allowing the agency to be more accessible.
