A report by The Australian Indigenous Doctors' Association suggests that improvements made to physical health will probably be outweighed by the negative impact of the "Northern Territory intervention on psychological health, spirituality and cultural integrity". The Association has thus called for a seizure to "Compulsory welfare quarantining for Indigenous people in the Northern Territory".
The Australian Indigenous Doctors' Association report states, "It is likely that new sustained investments in material resources, including education, housing and healthcare services and delivery, will make a significant contribution to improved physical health for some people".
The association has strongly recommended that due of its profound long-term negative impacts, compulsory income management should come to a halt as soon as possible.
The Federal Government, on the other hand, is on the opposite side, as it is planning to introduce income management to all disadvantaged areas of the Northern Territory and, then spreading it all over the country.
The key to lasting change, The Indigenous Doctors say, is "working in respectful partnership with Aboriginal leaders and organizations".
