Alaskans Sought Yukon’s Cross border Health-Care

Alaskans have been often using the Canadian public health-care system which is enjoyed by Yukoners. The former Governor Sarah Palin confessed that her family travelled across the border from Skagway, Alaska, to Whitehorse for medical purposes in 1960s.

The critics attacked the former Republican Vice-Presidential candidate for violating the norms and using the very public health-care system which she had described as evil in the past.

There are a lot of Americans from southeast Alaska who reveal that the medical rates in Canada are far low than what they have to pay in Alaska. The practice has been slowed down for the last ten years, as insurance companies revealed Yukon doctors that they might not be covered if they treated out-of-country patients.

Dr. Wayne MacNichol, a Whitehorse obstetrician, told CBC News on Wednesday," In fact, when these services stopped being provided up here, there was quite an outcry from these Alaskan communities".

Though, the medical emergencies from Alaska are still handled by Whitehorse-based doctors. Alaskan patients pay about $3,200 a day, according to the doctors.
