Australian Customs Rises Against Counterfeiters

The Australian Customs and Border Protection Service yesterday are revealed to have risen against counterfeiters calling for a seizure of a number of R4 cartridges which enable piracy on Nintendo's DS and DSi handheld consoles was just in line with the normal business for the agency.

The seizure clearly points to ongoing intensifying battle between the Japanese game maker and would-be pirates.

A company's spokeswoman Patricia O'Connell posted in a telephone interview today that the Australian Customs and Border Protection Service on Jan. 29 reportedly seized 150 items which were revealed to be suspected of infringing the Kyoto, Japan- based company's trademarks.

"In accordance with this Scheme, the importer agreed to forfeit these items to Customs and Border Protection. Customs and Border Protection will dispose of these forfeited items," he added.

In addition, it is revealed that among the items recovered were counterfeit versions of Wii controllers, nunchucks, games and R4 cards -- copying devices capable of circumventing protection measures placed in the company's Nintendo DS and Nintendo DSi gaming systems.
