Most people who are afflicted with kidney disease are unaware of the fact that diabetes and hypertension are two important causes of the same. One needs to see a doctor for a kidney test, if he has diabetes. One can stay away from ailments pertaining to kidney by keeping in control his or her blood sugar as well as blood pressure.

Many people don’t realise when the disease in the beginning, until the disease becomes more chronic and requires a dialysis. It is a disease in which the kidney fails to function properly due to some physical injury or a disease that damages the kidneys, such as diabetes or high blood pressure.

This disease has taken toll on more than 45,000 people in 2006 and is the ninth leading cause of death in the U. S. In the year 2000, 26 million U. S. adults suffered from this disease without even being aware of it.

World Kidney Day on 11 March is dedicated to make more and more people aware of the fatal disease as well as its detection at early stages. This time the campaign is focussed on diabetes.

People having diabetes should undergo an A1C test for about four times a year. It measures the average level of blood sugar in the last three months.
