A 40-foot container is being shipped to Haiti with medical supplies to help the earthquake stricken Caribbean country.
The supplies will be shipped to a health clinic in Haiti, which were donated by a joint effort by the Regina Qu'Appelle Health Region and SaskTel. The warehouse was donated by the City of Regina.
The effort marks the seventh time that the two have joined hands to donate medical supplies and various other equipment to a disaster struck nation. It is also the 50th time Regina Qu'Appelle Health Region has sent out supplies as a part of its relief efforts.
The equipment being shipped includes essentials like stretchers, crutches, incubators, needles and bandages, which will go to a Haitian clinic situated near the border of Dominican Republic.
RQHR CEO Dwight Nelson, said, "A lot of this stuff we try and find other health facilities in the province that might need it, but usually they have better equipment than our old stuff, so a lot of it, unfortunately, ends up in landfills".
"Having an opportunity to ship stuff somewhere else where it's needed is a great idea. It's the old adage. One person's junk is another person's gold", he concluded.
A second container is being planned to be sent to Haiti by the RQHR and SaskTel sometime around June.
Haiti, a tiny island in the Caribbean, is slowly on course to rebuild itself, after a catastrophic earthquake hit the nation on January 12 this year.
