Chattanooga’s Fire Department Determined to Spread Awareness

The city of Chattanooga has been alerted by the Fire Department to forward their clock hand one hour forward for daylight according to the daylight saving time. Their drive aims to alert people and reach to the uncovered areas.

The program will cover free distribution of smoke alarms to approximately 200 residents in Hixson. According to Chief Mack Moore of the Department of training, Hixson has been preferred because of the number of older homes and older residents are high in it, in comparison to the other communities. He further added that the program has also incorporated members from the fire department's Young Citizens' Academy and Red Cross. The Fire Department will spread awareness by going to every neighborhood and dispense new batteries for the fire detectors and fee alarms.

Capt. Whiteside, Fire Department spokeswoman said, "The areas are chosen basically on demographics within the area, based on fire calls and different socioeconomic guidelines of the area".

Richard Beeland, spokesman for Chattanooga Mayor Ron Littlefield reported that the death toll because of fire accidents is on a high due to negligence and less consciousness among people to deal with the unfortunate incidents. The program has been designed to help the society and to prevent fire accidents.
