Britons Least Prone to Food Reactions: Researchers

According to a recent study published in the journal Allergy, the British people are the least prone to food reactions in the western given the robust immune systems they have.

The study conducted by Imperial College London on around 4,500 adults in 13 countries.

It found variations in the in the rate of individual reacting to specific foods, from one nation to nation. A total of 25% of people in Portland, Oregon and US, depicted food sensitivity whereas the rate in Iceland and Spain was seen to be 11%. And Britain and France reported a 14% sensitivity rate.

Under the research the blood sensitivity for antibodies against a range of foods for the participants was tested. This measures the food sensitivity implying the strength of the immune system.

Among the participants, very few portrayed symptoms like wheezing, swelling or digestive problems.

On a surprising note, the study concluded that a number of countries displayed reactions to food items like hazelnuts, peaches, shrimp, wheat and apples. And foods like fish, eggs and cow's milk which are expected to trigger sensitivity did not really prove to be much stimulating.
